Best of 2016

I sat down to write this year end review and found myself getting a little emotional. 2016, like any year, has been a year of ups and downs. Like every photographer, I’ve encountered points in my career where I have had to stop, re-evaluate, question, and make sure that I am headed in the right direction as a photographer, professional, and person. There are always challenges and bumps in the road, but I’ve learned to take them in stride, move forward, and come out stronger than I was before.

This year has been a huge year of growth for me. I’ve watched my work achieve the levels that I only dreamed of when I first started photography 8 years ago, and I’ve enjoyed success greater than I have ever experienced in my lifetime. But nothing compares to the feeling of being a part of someones wedding day.

The other day I was photographing a wedding at Secret Island in Kualoa, and I found that I was getting emotional. The couples words to each other, their love, their souls were being exposed in the deepest possible way, and I was there witnessing it. There’s something very magical and deep about that. Having the chance to do something that I love, with people that I love, in a place that I love is a blessing beyond which I can express with words.

On a personal level, 2016 has been one big adventure. I’ve been able to travel to Maui, Kauai, Portland Oregon, all over Ireland and Scotland, and back to Texas to do my first JLP workshop. I’ve spent the year working hard on close to 40 weddings while at the same time putting on Hawaii’s first wedding photography conference, featuring some of the best photographers in the industry.  I’m so happy and content with my life here in Hawaii. The sun, the sea, the sand, the spirit of this island envelops every part of my being and makes me feel whole and happy. It’s been a process getting to this place, and it feels good.

Thank you to each and every couple who allowed me into their lives this year. Whether it was an engagement/honeymoon/couple session, vow renewal or  your wedding, I am thankful in every way possible for choosing me to photograph you. 2016 has been amazing, and I am moving forward to even greater things next year.

XOXO and Mahalo nui loa kakou,

Jenna Leigh
